Kate Watts
Kate Watts (born Eunice Kate Nowlan, c.1848 - 25 February 1924)〔England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966〕 was a British secularist and feminist writer and lecturer, active in the National Secular Society (NSS) in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
She was born in London,〔England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915, Holborn, 1849〕 and married Charles Watts in 1870.〔FreeBMD. England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index, 1837-1915, St Saviour Southwark〕 She rose to prominence for her opposition to then NSS President & Founder Charles Bradlaugh's involvement in the Knowlton Trial (which led to Bradlaugh & Annie Besant forming the Malthusian League). In 1877 she wrote ''Reply to Mr Bradlaugh'' outlining her opposition, which centred on the internal politics of the secular movement and her desire to disassociate secularism with "sexual immorality" of the Owenite movement.〔
